Scrap Value
From a distance, the work appears as a dispersed field of cables, coherent and contained. Yet in closer proximity, this surface dissolves. As the strands descend, their outer sheathing gives way, exposing finer filaments and traces of copper; a gradual shift toward something more fragile and unresolved.
Each length has been stripped back by hand. Through cutting, pulling, and tensioning, layers are removed to reveal subtle shifts in colour and texture; insulation giving way to raw material, surface to interior. These gestures are not uniform; they accumulate as variations, producing a field that is both systematic and irregular. The material changes as it falls. What begins as insulated and controlled becomes increasingly delicate, lightly meeting the ground at the edge of disintegration without fully collapsing.
The installation operates as a relational system held in tension, shaped by gravity, air, and movement. Order emerges only momentarily. Perception is unstable: from afar, the work consolidates; up close, it fragments. In this slow exposure, structure and vulnerability remain in continuous exchange.
